About La Fonda.
La Fonda has welcomed travellers for centuries. Nestled in the heart of Órgiva, in southern Spain, it was once a Moorish caravanserai in times when people travelled by donkey over the Alpujarra Mountains. Later, it became a base for trekking holidays, and then eventually a place of Muslim worship, before being deemed unsafe for use.
Today, this historic building is on the brink of collapse and urgently needs restoration. We’ve partnered with the local community and supporters worldwide to bring it back to life. You can join us to be part of the revival.
Our restoration plan envisions La Fonda as a social enterprise, offering a community space and home rooted in Andalusi culture and education. The restored space will feature communal areas, a café, quiet rooms, a library, exhibition spaces, art studios, a prayer hall, workshop rooms, a modest boutique hotel, and a large gathering area that opens onto a serene garden inspired by Andalusian traditions.
